The City Council is the legislative body of the City that serves as the policy making board for the City of Twentynine Palms and the Twentynine Palms Redevelopment Agency.

The City Council of Twentynine Palms consists of five members, elected at-large by the voters of the City of Twentynine Palms to staggered terms of four years on even numbered years. The terms are staggered so that three City Council seats are up one election year and two City Council seats are up the next election year. Council Members receive $450 per month compensation. A new Mayor and Mayor pro tem are selected from among the Council Members each calendar year in November or December.

The City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month to conduct the business of the City. Meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277. When the need arises, the City Council meets at other times to conduct business.

Through the presentation of staff reports and general information to the City Council, they deliberate on items, taking into account public concern, public policy issues, community issues, and financial conditions in making policy decisions to guide the City staff.

The Council adopts ordinances and resolutions necessary for efficient governmental operations. It also appoints the City Manager, City Treasurer, City Clerk, and members of the City's boards, committees, and commissions.
